English Teaching

Community Upliftment Society Nepal Teaching Program is an enjoyable and satisfying experience where students and staff member are eager to improve their conversational English skills. Volunteers work primarily as instructors of English in either public or private schools. Volunteers may also be asked to assist in other school activities such as sports or extra-curricular projects.
Volunteers teach from 3 to 5 periods (each period 45 minuets) each day, six days a week. Most of the schools hour starts at 9:30 to 15:00. Most of the students range in age from 6 to 16 in public school but in private schools students start quite earlier in the age of 4 year. Each school has its own English teachers who assist volunteer in solving communication barriers, and provide suitable curricula for classroom use.

English teaching volunteers do not have to be natives of English-speaking countries. We always welcome who have a working knowledge of English and the desire to share their knowledge with students who are eager to learn. We provide some Nepali teaching methods during your orientation period with experienced resource persons who help you the course Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). The course is very helpful in your life. Most of the schools are closed during the holidays and exam periods. During these times, we will organize alternative tasks for volunteers, such as assisting in our orphanage, teaching, youth clubs, mother groups (if necessary). Also volunteer can take a part for sightseeing, trekking, rafting etc during these periods.

Volunteer will teach any other subjects such as social science, geography, mathematics, environmental, population, science, history and other vocational subjects. Private schools students have better communicative English than public schools. Due to the language barrier students are not enough able to understand in public schools.

Health and First aid program
Our government tries to provide proper health service in rural parts of Nepal. Many of the health post centers—established to provide services in rural areas—are inadequately staffed. Also skilled, professional, trained, health workers reluctant to go these places whether their posting is in rural areas due to the lack of transportation, physical equipments in health centers and they there is no any options to enhance their skill in rural areas. So, most of the health personnel are limited in urban area. In some health centers sometimes an office assistant recommend Anti Biotic for normal case. Community Upliftment Society Nepal assembles compassionate volunteer groups to help alleviate this problem in an effort to boost the quality of health care for disadvantaged Nepali people.
Volunteers are placed in Local Health Post, Hospital, Health clinics and any other health centers. Health Program Volunteers assist local doctors and medical staff in the treatment of patients. Also, volunteers may participate in such hospital programs such as vaccinating, checking patients, consulting to patients, nutrition, or treatment of minor injuries. Volunteers also may take a part in health camp, mobile clinic, visiting door-to-door program.
Interested volunteers must have certification or proof of experience in a medical field, such as a medical student ID, EMT or paramedic certification, or nursing or physician’s credentials. Due to the health risks involved, volunteers who are not properly trained in health care cannot work in some circumstances. But they may involve in observing and studying medical system in Nepal. Also they will be involved in keeping health records, consulting to patients for nutrition, HIV aids awareness program.

Work at Orphanage Home
Each year, hundreds of children leave poor villages to find work in cities. Most of them are abandoned in early infant age, fled from war, step mom’s tortured, either parents were killed in war or in jail, destitute family background etc. As a result, most of these needy children are deprived of education and find work as child laborers in restaurants, factories, hotels, slave, and trash collector. These disadvantaged children need attention, love, care, and the opportunity to further their education.
Our volunteers teach basic English and other subjects such as math and science in creative ways to these eager learners. As a volunteer, you might also organize tours, games, drawing classes, singing, dancing, painting and other activities that children enjoy. Volunteers may help the children prepare for school, help with their homework, and organize arts and crafts activities.
